  • Compress the game better.

What is an unlikely hero?

“A character in a story or narrative who is not expected to be a hero, often due to traits, background, or circumstances, yet ultimately displays heroic qualities or takes heroic actions” is the definition offered by getidiom.com.

In the context of this game, the character can be an unlikely hero through background and (maybe) circumstances. Our character would have been very indoctrinated through propaganda which can be shown early in the game. Later on however their opinions and morals will change as they start to question why they’re fighting this war. It’ll culminate in our character breaking away from their indoctrination and training to directly oppose the political officer when the officer wants to launch the nuclear weapons on board.

TL:DR, our character starts off indoctrinated “for the cause” but later learns the value of human life and decides to stand against nuclear warfare with the United States.

Plot;

The year is 1988, it’s the fourth year of direct conflict between the Soviet Union and United States. Soviet forces have taken control of Hawaii and tensions between the super powers are about to boil over into ‘Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)’.

The player is captaining a Soviet nuclear submarine off the coast of San Francisco. and the game takes place over the last few months of the war as the player becomes disillusioned to the war and realises what their role would be in the conflict (the nuclear bombardment of civilians).

The player is in direct conflict then with the Political Officer on board as the PO is dedicated to the cause and the war while the player is against it, this culminates in an ideal and moral fight between the two. The player comes out victorious and the nuking of San Francisco is avoided.

The world should feel isolating, player should feel detached from the conflict they’re engaged in.
